112 Weddings Q&A – free tickets competition!

Our friends over at Dogwoof are releasing acclaimed documentary filmmaker Doug Block’s new film 112 Weddings. Over two decades Doug supported his career with a side business of videotaping weddings. Long curious about how their marriages have turned out, in this film he tracks down and interviews some of the more memorable of the 112 weddings he’s filmed – with funny, insightful and deeply moving results.
We’ve bagged a pair of tickets to the London Q&As prior to the film’s release.
Wednesday 11 June – 18:30 – Notting Hill Gate Cinema
Wednesday 11 June – 20:30 – Phoneix Cinema East Finchley
Thursday 12 June – 18:30 – Clapham Picturehouse
To enter, tweet to @Docheads with why you should be the winner of the tickets, including the link dogwoof.org/1pCOYyX
Dogwoof will choose a winner on Tuesday 10th June, so get tweeting!

Discounts for East End Film Festival

Doc Heads members get a 25% discount on the East End Film Festival’s Mind the Gap Industry Sessions!

Mind the Gap – or how to make it as a filmmaker beyond your first feature
East End Film Festival’s Mind the Gap Industry Sessions are back this year between the 16-18th of June at London’s exclusive 3 Mills Studios. Participants will enjoy 3 full days of panels, Q&As, workshops, interviews, networking and even a studio tour!
Mind the Gap is designed to collectively unpick the reasons why it can be so difficult for first time feature filmmakers (narrative or documentary) to move into their second project and thereby a successful longterm career. We’ve teamed up with industry icons and leading organisations to share their knowledge and offer their support and services. It’s also a great opportunity to share your successes and frustrations with a like-minded peer group.
The full programme and the list of speakers is online via website, Twitter and Facebook.

Open City Docs celebrates and nurtures documentary film.

Based at UCL and working with partners across London, throughout the UK and internationally, Open City Docs delivers films screenings and live events, training programmes and projects throughout the year to support the next generation of filmmakers. We aim to challenge, explore and expand ideas of what documentary can be and do.

We want to provoke debate and open minds by presenting films about real life, about the experience of real people, and to give ear to those voices that are not often heard.

At Open City Docs Fest every event is a ‘live’ event with filmmaker Q&As, film and subject panel discussions, live music, food and workshops for industry and public.

During the week we programme in various venues across London and create a hub in Bloomsbury where the Open City Village and Cinema Tent on Torrington Square is a pop-up cinema space especially made for doc-lovers. We aim to be an open-minded and open-hearted cultural and social event where filmmakers meet their audience. Please hang around, discover a little known part of the heart of the city and deepen your understanding of the world we live in.
