New Series of Masterclasses with Molinare

Doc Heads is really excited to announce our new series of masterclasses, in conjunction with Molinare. Our first will be held on the 24th September, and will focus specifically on sound.

Join award-winning dubbing mixer George Foulgham (Man on Wire, Mugabe and the White African) for a masterclass focussing on the critically acclaimed documentary “Last Man on the Moon” – with clips, a practical session, and drinks. Director Mark Craig and effects editor Nick Adams will discuss with George the approach, style and practicalities of the craft of dubbing.

The Last Man on the Moon tells the story of Apollo astronaut Eugene Cernan. He stepped off the moon in 1972, leaving his footprints and his daughter’s initials in the lunar dust. Only now, forty years later, is he ready to share his epic but deeply personal story.  ‘The Last Man on the Moon’ combines rare archive material, compelling visual effects and unprecedented access to present an iconic historical character on the big screen.

George Foulgham is recognised as one of the most respected dubbing mixers in the industry, particularly for his Feature and TV Documentary work. George moved to Molinare in 2002, having begun his mixing career at Video London Sound Studios where he was a pioneer in the transition of sound mixing to video. Since moving to Molinare George’s reputation for quality mixing has led to a large number of Industry award wins and nominations, including the 2010 BAFTA Sound Factual Craft Award win for BBC’s ‘Trawlermen,’ preceded by multiple UK Screen Conch Awards for projects such as the Oscar-winning ‘Man On Wire’ and Grierson-winning ‘Mugabe & the White African’, and the 2003 RTS Award for Factual Sound on the BBC series ‘Fighting The War.’

The running order for the evening will be as follows:

6.30pm – doors open and drinks in the bar

7.00pm – George, Mark and Nick discuss The Last Man on the Moon, with clips

8.00pm – Two hands on sessions with George in the sound studio

8.45pm – Extended sequence from film, and drinks in the bar

Tickets: FREE to members and £8 for non-members. If you are a member click here to access the discount code

A Dangerous Game – 2 Free Tickets

We have 2 free tickets to the Hackney Picturehouse  (12th September) and 2 tickets to the Greenwich Picturehouse (22nd September) Q&A screenings for Anthony Baxter’s eagerly awaited A DANGEROUS GAME.

Email katharine@docheads.org to be entered into the hat (members-only). The winners for the Hackney screening will be notified by midday on the 12th September and the winners for the Greenwich screening will be notified by midday on the 15th September.

More details on the film:

Fearless director Anthony Baxter follows American billionaire Donald Trump and a cast of other greedy and outlandish characters who want to turn some of the Earth’s most precious places into golf courses and playgrounds for the super rich.

Many of the plans are simply bizarre – a space age resort overlooking a medieval town; acres of grass turf flown thousands of miles from Augusta, Georgia to a Middle Eastern desert; and an epic explosion of golf courses in a country (China) where they are supposedly illegal.

And then there is Donald Trump – telling the Scottish Parliament it must stop the country’s renewable energy program because windmills will spoil the view from the golf course he calls the “best in the world.”

The filmmaker The New York Times said “cannot be shaken off” finds the views of local people ignored as developers seek to turn fragile ecosystems into manicured lawns for the pampered and privileged.

In every case, the environmental damage is justified by trickle-down promises of jobs and money that a handful of the world’s wealthiest will bring. But Baxter also discovers a colourful and increasingly savvy array of resistors who believe these promises of economic benefits are absurd – and who aren’t taking it any more.

They are an extraordinary bunch…and include a Croatian schoolteacher, a Scottish salmon fisherman, and a famous film star (Alec Baldwin). What they share is a concern about the environmental, health and economic impact of golf courses that are less recreational facilities, than enclaves for a tiny minority of the world’s wealthiest people.

In this funny, inspiring and at times heartbreaking David vs. Goliath story for the 21st century, the locals don’t give in easily. But as Baxter uncovers, democracy is not always enough to stop the confluence of money, power, and greed. And the clock is ticking.
